Ch. 698 - Doflamingo Arrives

3/14 - Happy Birthday Smoker!
Who else is shipping Aokiji and Smoker so much after this panel?  They were totally lovers but had a bad experience and now they are thinking about getting back together.

One Piece Awards Tournament - Round 1 - Match 4

Vice-Admiral Smoker vs. Whitebeard

I feel sorry for Smoker that he has to go against Whitebeard in the 1st round.  Just for the sake of this battle Whitebeard is alive.

Will it be the man of great justice or the strongest man in the world?

Finally, Donquixote Doflamingo at work!  And he’s got the Emperor’s haki.

It’s time for the weekly theory/commentary post!  Sorry that I have to once again combine two chapters.  In this segment, I’ll be covering my personal theories on chapters 696 and 697.

And if you have any theories that you would like my opinion on then send them to the mailbox located on the far left of the links —> Askbox

I just want to say that I love personalized den-den mushis.  Law’s is my personal favorite but followed soon after be Doflamingo’s.

Brownbeard is cute in his own alligator-butt way.  I hope we’ll see him and his crew in the cover stories at some point in the future since I don’t foresee them having any further plot impact.

I knew that Kinemon couldn’t be dead!  That means that the gas isn’t as deadly Caesar made it out to be.  It’s back to the drawing board for deadly gases that can annihilate entire islands. So the other G-5 members are probably okay?

Momonosuke is the most adorable thing in the world.  Aww, I just want to hug him and hold him.  His little butt is just precious.  Doesn’t it remind you of a peach?  But then we have to discuss his devil fruit ability.  Vegapunk’s fruit was originally said to have been a failure but I think that was just to throw off Caesar.  There’s no way that Caesar is the only person in the world that is able to create perfect artificial devil fruit.  I think that Momonosuke was just originally scared and confused as to how to control is fruit but I think he’ll slowly get the hang of it and we know that he’s able to go back and forth between his ability.

I’m curious as to how Law went about treating these kids in detail.  I’d love to see Law in his element and cutting people up.  The doctor rivalry that is forming between Law and Chopper is just fantastic.  I hope they’ll be able to learn from each other.  Law will forever not be known by his real name.

I think that I like Nami as a character more these days.  This arc really showed us a side of her that we rarely get to see and it reminds us of the fact that she’s the daughter of a female marine.  Not that we ever forgot.  It gives you a more motherly side of Nami that rarely comes out.

Sanji cooks a Newkama meal for the first time!  I’m going to be so excited to see how it’s animated.  Zoro’s going to be all over his case about the Newkama thing but that’s a conversation for when night falls.  I hope we’ll be able to see more of these meals in the future and learn a little more about Sanji’s time after challenging them.

“Let’s live on, Momonosuke!”  There’s definitely something more to these words than meets the eye.  Sanji even makes a comment on it.  Would it possibly have to do something with pirates that they met in the past or that they kind of lost the will to live earlier in the story?  I think that it’s going to circle back to the closed door policy of Wa no Kuni.  Luffy’s crew will be the ones to break those doors and traditions without fear.

I love how Law tells Luffy that it’s dangerous to be there and Luffy completely disregards his comment and continues partying.  Law is so done with them.  But he’s got a soft spot in his heart for them though with all those smirks.  I knew that Law wouldn’t betray Luffy.  With an alliance partner like that, there’s no doubt that things will get done.  They always get the job done in the end even though they attract more attention than necessary.  And Law might have possibly smiled (still need to send it through the lab), so they’re bringing out a side of Law that we might have never gotten to see.

Oh, Luffy.  So it didn’t really matter who the first Yonkou they’d be taking down was.  He was prepared for anything.  He would have willingly jumped into battle against Shanks right away if Law proposed it.  Although, I think that they don’t stand a chance yet.  But Kaidou is said to be the strongest thing alive which leads me to believe that he’s got some kind of impressive zoan devil fruit.  But Shanks did intercept them in the past so but he probably wasn’t at full strength.  It’s still too early to judge strength properly for the Yonkou since we haven’t seen any of them fight yet.

What is Green Bit?  To be honest, I don’t care where it is but the rest of Law’s crew had better be there because I miss them so much.  Law’s pretty daring to tell Smoker exactly where he’s going, but I guess that’s because Smoker doesn’t have a ship and he has the responsibility of taking the children back to headquarters.  But I guess that’s the thrill of being a pirate.

This relationship that’s forming between Law/Luffy with Smoker is just so great.  I think it’s hard to be a perfect marine and view Luffy as the scum of the earth.  His crew is so unorthodox.  They’re a crew that you can’t help but admire and respect even with the teachings of the marines.  I guess that’s why Luffy is able to draw in the support of so many pirates who would otherwise be against him.

That look Law has on his face makes me a bit curious.  Is that when he thought up the tactic of cutting off their heads and sticking it onto that raft?

Doflamingo is a cool guy but Kaido will probably kick his ass to next tuesday.  It’s pretty evident since the color in Doflamingo’s face is going and Law stated it.  The important thing that I’ll be concentrating on is the reason why Law might be wanting Doflamingo to step down from the Shichibukai.  I think that Law has plans for a fellow Supernova to step into that position.  It’ll never be Luffy since I don’t think the World Government wants anything else to do with him.  Perhaps it will be Kid since he’d be a valuable pirate to have by Law’s side.  As they say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer.  Although I don’t think that Kid would take the offer.

Baby 5 mentions that they would never be able to show their faces at Dressrosa again.  Then that means that Doflamingo is not the owner of that island.  He’s merely a vacationer with immense influence in the seas.  They must have a strict clientele.  This opens all sorts of questions as to what that island actually is and who owns it.

I think that the only way that Doflamingo would step down is if Caesar comes with the deal.  Oh gosh, this is such a tough choice to make.  I don’t think he’ll step down though.  It’s not a proper plan unless things go horribly wrong.
